Simon began working as a Research Engineer and the Academic Lead for Stratagem towards the end of his PhD in Machine Learning at UCL.
His research there focused on exploiting structure in high-dimensional output spaces to design better predictors, though he also spent considerable time designing reinforcement learning agents for trading in financial markets.
At Stratagem he splits his time between working with the market making team and pushing Stratagem’s academic research agenda.
In the market making team he utilises his experiences designing reinforcement learning agents in a trading setting and implementing state of the art machine learning technologies. By dedicating time to academic research activities, he helps Stratagem achieve its goal of producing high quality, original research that focuses on solving difficult real world problems.
“Here at Stratagem I get to work with enthusiastic and open minded people that are always happy to discuss new ideas and offer intelligent insights across a wide range of topics. I also get to combine three of the things I enjoy most; discovering patterns in data, trading on markets and watching sports. If there was a barbecue and beer in the office, I’d struggle to leave at night.”
